Yahangala

Yahangala, located adjacent to the Knuckles Reserve in the Kandy District, is a prominent mountain peak that ranks highly among mountain climbers. The mountain can be easily accessed from Kalugala village, which lies near the Knuckles Reserve, and there are several forested paths that lead to this peak. Situated in the southern part of the Knuckles Reserve, the peak reaches an altitude of around 1300 meters.

Thunhisgala

Thunhisgala is the sixth highest of the 34 peaks in the Knuckles Mountains. The elevation is 1617 meters above sea level. It is situated at the center of Knuckles area-Kalupahana which was covered with Cardamom estates 30 years ago.

The Knuckles Mountain Range

Located in the districts of Kandy and Matale, is bounded by the Mahaweli River to the east, Hasalaka, Hettipola, Wasgamuwa route, and to the north, Wasgamuwa, Riverston, Matale. And the towns of Matale, Bambarella, Gomaraya, Tangappuwa to the west. To the south, the boundaries extend through regions such as Attala Mettuwa, Dumbara Gama, Kalugala, and Hasalaka. It is a mountainous area that stands out with an area of 21,000 hectares in the central hill country.

The picturesque Meemure village is nestled in the sweeping valleys of Dumbara mutely hidden inside the incessant forests and herculean peaks of the well-known knuckles range lying parallel to Matale and Kandy districts. Hirigalpoththa, Renaketupathana,Thunhisgala, Kehelpathdoruwa, Yahangala, Knuckles, Kobonilgala,Dothalugala, Kalupahana, Wamarapugala, Lakegala, Labupelassa, Dumbanagala, Galkula are to name some of the colossal summits that naturally insulates this charming hamlet.

Lakegala Hiking and Climbing

Conspicuous Lakegagala is the sheer identity of Meemure or the Rock of the Devils. As mentioned in the epic Ramayana, Lakegala was a navigation landmark which King Rawana used to wing his dandumonara.

Knuckles Waterfall Hopping

The Knuckles Protected Reserve experiences its main rainy season from the east monsoon, with an annual rainfall reaching up to 5000 mm. From October to February, rain falls on all the regions of this area, and during this time, the waterfalls flow with greater beauty.

Knuckles Five Peaks

The Knuckles Five Peaks, located to the west of the Knuckles Mountain Range, is one of the most distinctive mountain summits due to several unique features. The Five Peaks consists of five peaks, each connected to one another, and the name “Knuckles” comes from the shape of the peaks, which resemble the knuckles of a fist when viewed from a distance, especially at a certain angle.

Kehilpathdoruwa

Kehilpathdoruwa, located on the southern edge of the Knuckles mountain range, can be described as a paradise for mountain climbers in Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands.

Kanaviddagala

Knuckles Reserve, is a peak with the most challenging access among the mountains in the area. Due to its unique shape, it is popular among mountain climbers, yet the difficulty of its location makes it a significant challenge to conquer. Only a select few have successfully reached the summit.
