Knuckles Five Peaks

The Knuckles Five Peaks, located to the west of the Knuckles Mountain Range, is one of the most distinctive mountain summits due to several unique features. The Five Peaks consists of five peaks, each connected to one another, and the name “Knuckles” comes from the shape of the peaks, which resemble the knuckles of a fist when viewed from a distance, especially at a certain angle. This distinctive shape is why the British named the entire mountain range after it, while locals refer to the range as “Dumbara Wilderness.”

This mountain range is an approved hiking trail by the Department of Forest Conservation and is known as the “Dawatgala Trail.” The trail starts from Bambarella and travels to Tangappuwa, passing by the Five Peaks. Therefore, this mountain summit can be reached from both Bambrella and Tangappuwa villages.

From the summit of the Knuckles Five Peaks, a 360° panoramic view can be seen. Additionally, the region, known for its rich plant and wildlife diversity, often experiences heavy mist and a cool breeze, adding to its natural charm. This peak is the second highest in the Knuckles Mountain Range, and it can be considered the ultimate challenge for mountain climbers in the area. The Five Peaks can be climbed in a single day, but climbers must be physically fit to take on the challenge. During the hike, visitors will encounter the Knuckles Waterfall, and at the end of the journey, they can enjoy a refreshing swim in the waterfall if desired.
